A deposit secures your date and the remaining balance is due on the day of the lesson. Custom packages are available for larger events or an ongoing weekly game.

What happens in your first 2.5 hours?

The session is deliberately front-loaded with play. You spend roughly the first half hour on fundamentals and the remaining two hours playing real hands with coaching.

1. The tiles. Craks, Bams and Dots, then the Winds, the Dragons, and the eight Jokers and eight Flowers that make the American game its own animal.
2. The card. A repeatable method for scanning the NMJL card and picking a realistic direction for the hand you were actually dealt — not the hand you wish you had.
3. The Charleston. The mandatory pass that opens every American game: right, across, left, then back, plus the strategy behind what you let go of.
4. Guided play. At least two full games, with live feedback on discards, defense and when a Joker is worth burning.

Do you need to buy anything before your first lesson?

No. Jessica provides everything required for play: the 152-tile set, racks with pushers, dice and mats. Card tables, chairs and tablecloths are available if your space needs them. You provide the place and the players.

How fast will you actually be able to play?

You will play complete hands in your first session — that is the design of the lesson, not a stretch goal. What takes longer is speed: recognizing a hand's direction in a few seconds instead of a few minutes, and knowing when to abandon a hand you've fallen in love with. Most students describe the second and third games as the point where the card stops feeling like a foreign document.
