Private Mahjong Events and Parties in Las Vegas
By Jessica Gitlin — Las Vegas's favorite Mahjong teacher
Every private mahjong event is the same two ingredients — a table and a teacher — and the interesting part is everything you build around them.
The short version
- A private mahjong event is the flexible version: your venue, your guest count, your format.
- Scales in blocks of four — one table for 4–6 guests, two tables for up to 10, more tables by arrangement.
- Held at homes, clubhouses, hotel suites, private dining rooms, offices and event spaces across the Valley.
- Everything is brought in: 152-tile sets, racks with pushers, dice, mats — plus card tables, chairs and tablecloths if needed.
- Guests never need experience. The teaching block adapts to how much of the event should be instruction versus play.
- Quoted per event; the published table packages are the starting point. Call or text 917-533-8690.

What counts as a private mahjong event?
Anything that isn't a standard lesson. In practice that covers a wide range: a housewarming, a reunion weekend, a bridal shower, a retirement send-off, a holiday gathering, a neighborhood social, a book club that wants a different month, a family visiting from out of state.
The structure is always the same underneath — tiles, tables, teaching, guided play — and everything above that is set to fit the occasion.
How events scale
| Guests | Tables | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| 4–6 | One | Full instruction, everyone plays, rotating seats for guests 5 and 6 |
| 7–10 | Two | Longer session; instruction delivered to the room, coaching per table |
| 11–20 | Three or more | Shorter instruction block, more table support, planned rotation |
| 20+ | Custom | Venue and floor space become the constraint; plan well ahead |
The one number that determines everything is guests divided by four. Give a headcount range early and the rest of the plan falls out of it.
Venues that work
- Private homes across Summerlin, The Ridges, Henderson, Anthem, Southern Highlands and Centennial Hills
- Community clubhouses and HOA rooms
- Hotel and resort suites and Strip-corridor high-rises
- Private dining rooms and restaurant back rooms
- Offices and conference rooms
- Vacation rentals, subject to the property's own rules on gatherings
Deciding the instruction-to-play ratio
This is the choice most hosts don't know they're making, and it's the one that shapes the evening.
- Heavy instruction (about 30 minutes, then coached games). Best when guests should leave able to play on their own. This is the standard lesson format.
- Light instruction (a short orientation, then supported play). Best for larger parties where mahjong is one element of the evening and guests drift between tables.
- Mixed rooms. When some guests already play, a beginner table alongside a regular table keeps everyone in a real game rather than in a lecture.
Specific occasions covered elsewhere
Several event types have their own dedicated pages because the planning details differ. If your event is really a girls' night, or you're mainly looking for how to host mahjong at home yourself, start there. Otherwise, describe the occasion and the headcount and the format follows.
