Deciding the instruction-to-play ratio

This is the choice most hosts don't know they're making, and it's the one that shapes the evening.

1. Heavy instruction (about 30 minutes, then coached games). Best when guests should leave able to play on their own. This is the standard lesson format.
2. Light instruction (a short orientation, then supported play). Best for larger parties where mahjong is one element of the evening and guests drift between tables.
3. Mixed rooms. When some guests already play, a beginner table alongside a regular table keeps everyone in a real game rather than in a lecture.
